Natasha’s Album Project – Day One

Day 1. Our day began at 9 am with Natasha, Tina Gatewood (my assistant) and I going over the contractual agreement, signing and receiving the down payment for the beginning of the project. We had previously gone over the agreement by phone and prior to her coming to Minnesota form Montreal Canada she had an opportunity to have her people look the agreement over. This part went smoothly.

Next the three of us prayed that this work would flow well and be blessed by God which is customary for me when I work with clients in The Garden. Next we went over the project details and set the layout for the upcoming week.

Knowing what we need to accomplish during her time here was clearly established and our outline is like this; seeing that both of us wanted this to be a completely organic recording no music was prepared in advance. All of her poetic pieces were written and the general concept is that the tracks will have a live feel.

The setting is a small night club, very intimate and warm. My music created and performed as a 6 piece band will be the support for her lyrical gems. We will record her scratch vocals and I will create basic tracks on Mon, Tue, and Wed, of this week. Thur, Fri, and Sat she will deliver her master vocals to these basic tracks. Sunday of course is my day of rest and she fly’s home again on Monday August 31st 2009.

Because this is her first time recording we went over mic technique and the basics of living her performance instead of just reciting it. She did an outstanding job on day one. In about 4 hours we laid 3 complete drafts. The Garden was abuzz yesterday and I was completely connected to the creation process.

Creating music is one activity where I experience God. Tears flowed from both Natasha and I. Day 1 was excellent!
